Research Areas
The specific research areas of Graduate School for Electronic Business and
Software Industry (GEBSI) are models and strategies based on new
electronic business and efficient implementing and integrating of software and
service concepts, as well as their commercial and legal limits and added value
offered to consumers.
This wide spectrum or research questions requires that social, commercial as well as technical factors are taken into consideration. Organizing this kind of multiplicinary research in collaboration between a business school and a technical university is natural and even essential. The research approaches in GEBSI are manifold: analogies are seeked from research in new economy, consumer behavior, product and information system development (constructivism) and research of technical innovations (diffusion of technologies, technical culture). Functionality of some traditional models need to be tested: it is not self-evident that patenting computer software and biotechnical products or current protection and security of databases would truly contribute to the goals aimed at. At least some of the research will be directed to modeling and forecasting future impacts.
The research at GEBSI will cover widely the different areas of electronic business and software industry:
- electronic business and strategies (e.g. new services and associated revenue logics; transition from software industry to digital service and experience industry; roles of intermediaries and service developers in new business environment)
- changing operational environment of software businesses (e.g. changes in marketing and distribution of software products; new billing and use rights for software and its subparts; software transforming into services; changing emphasis on software production)
- changing consumer behavior in electronic environment (e.g. use situations and contexts for mobile services; future home and its connections to commercial services; changing structure of consumption; changes in purchasing decision making)
- legal issues in electronic business (e.g. IPR and responsibilities; consumer protection and privacy; issues related to taxation, customs and trade policies)
